Previously I stated that there was a bond, even a homosexual connection among Enkidu and Gilgamesh. Scratch that, in this tablet the brotherly love representation is as strong as it can be. Not only does Gilgamesh mourn deeply to the death of Enkidu but he wishes him to have a mother, a brother, a temple. A death worthy of a god.
"May the grasslands wail as if they where your mother" Pg 46 Tablet 8
"He hoovered like an eagle over the body, or as a lioness does over her brood." Pg 45. Tablet 8
The evident presence of a loving relationship over the 2 main characters is now even categorized like a father or son bond. The protective actions and impulses that Gilgamesh releases when Enkidu lies dead are similar to a protective mother when his child is in danger or is hurt. Not only does he mourn using these specific moves but he wished to remember him forever, to make his memory as grand as he was, and to make him have the death he deserves. Nevertheless Enkidu is remembered for his voyages as a worthy civilisation integer, he is not remembered by the times he fails to out stand Gilgamesh. E.g: "On the dangerous errand, in the confusions of noises, he was the shield that went before in battle; he was the weapon at hand to attack and defend." Pg. 44. Tablet 8
As Enkidu is remembered for his heroic actions and is destined to be remembered for ever. I now present a mix of the past with the present. Enjoy!
